Dementia Resource Consultants

Trained, professional resource consultants are available to respond to inquiries from persons diagnosed, family members or the general public. Support and advice can be provided at no cost. You do not need a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or any special referral to access our services. Dementia Resource consultants provide information, education, strategies and referral services to persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and informal caregivers. Our Dementia Resource consultants are flexible to client’s needs and can connect over the phone, via email or live video conferencing. We even can provide support in-person at one of our offices, in the community or a client’s home if required.  ​ Dementia Resource Consultants offer a variety of supports including:  Individualized disease education to those caring for or affected by Alzheimer’s Disease or a related dementia Strategies and approaches to dementia symptoms using a person-centred approach Support navigating the system to access appropriate learning opportunities, support services, referrals and resources. Develop a suggested plan of care with persons with dementia and care partners to engage in goal setting.  Engage in problem solving and work in collaboration with external parties to overcome barriers to service. Provide support through clients and care partners as they transition through the system. Information and linkages to internal Alzheimer Society Peel programs such as Adult Day Program, The Bathing Program, Nora’s House, Behavioural Supports Ontario, Education and Support Groups

  • Please remember we are not a crisis response program-if you are having a medical emergency please call 911 or go to your closest ER or Urgent Care Centre.

Individual Support

If you or a family member are newly diagnosed, we strongly recommend that you reach out to us for more information about resources, programs and services, and support. 

But in the meantime, to help you navigate through the changes, whether you are a person with dementia, a family member, or CarePartner, we have several brochures with details about what to expect. When you connect with us, the following resources can be discussed in greater detail.

  • First Steps: For Families of Those Recently Diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease outlines steps family members can take to prepare for the Alzheimer’s journey ahead.

  • Ways to Help: Assisting People Living With Alzheimer's Disease gives suggestions for helping people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and their CarePartners.

  • Heads Up for a Healthier Brains: This brochure will explain how the person with dementia can keep their brains healthy and active.

  • By Us for Us Guides; The By Us For Us guides are a series of unique resources created by a group of talented and passionate people living with dementia and care partners. The guides are designed to provide people living with dementia and care partners with necessary information and strategies to manage daily challenges and enhance their well-being. The By Us For Us guides were founded by Brenda Hounam, a person living with dementia, and supported by the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program (MAREP).
